Historical Home Renovations
We don’t just renovate historic homes, we listen to them. The details, the wear, the craftsmanship from another time. These aren’t just buildings. They’re stories, written in wood, stone, and time.

Preserving the Legacy of Historic Homes
Historic Homes, Carefully Renewed
At Sandhill Builders, our work starts long before construction. We study your home’s past—blueprints, old photographs, original materials—so that every decision we make moves it forward without erasing what came before. Whether you’re preserving a landmark or refreshing a beloved family home, we treat each space like the legacy it is.
Respect for the Past. Standards for the Present.
Working with older homes requires more than just tools. It takes deep knowledge of period-specific architecture, a respect for local preservation codes, and the ability to balance charm with functionality.
Why It Matters
Preserving a historic home isn’t about keeping everything frozen in time. It’s about honoring what’s timeless—and knowing how to bring in comfort, safety, and smart updates that let the house live on for generations to come.
We believe a home can stay true to its roots while still serving the needs of modern life. And when done right, it won’t feel like a compromise. It’ll feel like continuity.
Celebrating Cultural and Architectural Heritage
Preservation is about more than beauty. It’s about belonging.
Restoring a historic home isn’t just a design decision. It’s an act of cultural stewardship. These homes are more than old structures. They’re timekeepers. They hold stories, styles, and sensibilities that shaped the neighborhoods we live in today.
Keeping them alive does more than honor the past. It strengthens the fabric of a community.
Why restoration matters—beyond the walls
A thoughtful renovation often costs less than building new, yet it delivers something no blueprint can replicate: authenticity. These homes contribute to neighborhood charm and increase property value in ways that sterile new builds simply can’t match.
They also tread lighter on the planet. Reusing original materials reduces construction waste, minimizes resource demand, and makes sustainability not just a strategy, but a starting point.
The character isn’t just in the details. It is the details.
Whether it’s Victorian woodwork, original windows, or hand-laid tile that’s been there longer than most of us have been alive, we know what’s worth saving—and how to do it right. When we preserve those defining features, we don’t just restore a house. We reconnect it to its moment in time.

Historical Home Renovation at 516 Swinton, Delray Beach
This wasn’t just a renovation. It was a revival.
Originally built in 1925 and relocated to Delray Beach in the mid-90s, this Mediterranean Revival estate came with character, quirks, and an unmistakable sense of place. Nestled on a 12,000-square-foot lot just steps from Pineapple Grove and minutes from Atlantic Avenue, it offered a rare opportunity—to protect a piece of architectural history while adapting it for modern life.
We took the responsibility seriously.
From original hardwood floors to the distinctive arched details, we preserved everything we could. Where updates were needed, we made them with precision—quietly upgrading systems, finishes, and structural components without disturbing the home’s soul. New comforts were added, but nothing felt out of place. Every material was chosen to echo the past while serving the present.
The result? A home that feels anchored in its time but fully ready for the next century.
This project reflects what Sandhill Builders does best: honoring heritage, embracing craftsmanship, and creating homes that feel as good as they look.

Balancing Tradition with Modern Comfort
Deep Respect for History and Authenticity
Restoring a historic home is not a typical project—and we don’t treat it like one. At Sandhill Builders, we approach every renovation with care, patience, and a deep respect for the soul of the structure. That means honoring the original intent, preserving what’s irreplaceable, and integrating today’s comforts without disturbing yesterday’s craftsmanship.
Seamless Integration of Modern Amenities
Historic homes weren’t built for smart thermostats and energy codes. But that doesn’t mean they can’t have both. Our approach to modern upgrades is quietly seamless—concealed wiring, carefully selected systems, and finishes that match the era in tone, texture, and grace. You get the comfort of today, tucked inside the charm of yesterday.
Compliance with Local and National Preservation Standards
Navigating historic preservation standards can be overwhelming. We’ve done it many times, and we do it well. Whether your home is in a designated district or simply steeped in character, we handle the permits, board reviews, and state-level compliance without letting the red tape stall your vision. Our familiarity with Florida’s historic codes keeps the project moving and the details protected.
